Plant of the Week: Viburnum Odoratissimum

Where complete screening is wanted for privacy or noise control Sweet Viburnum is one the best options. FAST growing and will stay full from top to bottom when it receives at least 5 hours full sun. These plants grow quite large and are NOT recommended for home foundation plantings where they will cover windows, grow into eaves, or with constant pruning become bare at the bottom with large, heavy trunks.

Viburnum can be planted 3′-4′ on centers for dense screening for 3 gallon containers however can be planted further apart if they are larger containers. Viburnum can grow 15 plus feet tall and 4-5 feet wide if not kept clipped. They can be kept at 6-8 feet of height comfortably.

Viburnum is evergreen and cold hardy, moderately salt tolerant and the deer rarely bother it.
