Feature Plant of the Week: Eleocarpus ‘Japanese Blueberry’
Eleocarpus is a lush ornamental evergreen medium size tree that sports deep green leaves year round. Smaller size trees are excellent to use as a large screening plants, or as a standalone specimen, or as a large accent plant to anchor and soften corners. There are small white flowers that appear in the spring among the foliage and are extremely fragrant when in abundance.
This is followed by small black fruit that appear later in the year. Eleocarpus should be planted in well-drained soil and fertilize spring, summer and fall with slow release fertilizer. Beware, Deer eat this plant however it is moderately salt tolerant.
