Cardboard Palm

Height: 3′ – 4′
Spread: 4′ – 6′
Zone: 9 – 11
Salt: Good
Light: Full Sun / Partial Shade
Notes: A very unique palm that is been around since the dinosaurs. The Cardboard palm is actually apart of the Cycad family with the Sago palms. The palms thick leathery leaves are very unique in shape and texture. The leaves are about 5in in length and have a fuzzy feel to them. The palm is more of a “clumper” that will thicken up and spread. The Cardboards are extremely drought and salt tolerant and make for a nice accent or specimen plant in beachside plantings. Also makes a great container plant.

Chinese Fan Palm

Height: 25′
Spread: 10′ – 12′
Zone: 9 – 11
Salt: Poor
Light: Full Sun
Notes: A beautiful palm with many uses in the landscape. One the defining characteristics of the Chines Fan Palm is the drooping tip ends of its large six-foot leaves gently swaying in the breeze. Because of its slow growth it is ideal to use as a container palm on patios or decks where privacy and a tropical effect are desired. In the landscape this palm is perfect as a lone specimen, in groupings, or planted 10′ apart will form a closed canopy effect. Self cleaning of old leaves and requires little or no pruning. Fertilize 3 times per year with palm fertilizer.
