Plant of the Week: Muhly Grass

Muhly Grass is a naturally growing grass in Florida- found in woodland areas, open fields and even along the roadside. It makes a beautiful addition to any landscape with the ethereal pink/purple masses of plumes it provides in early fall.

Muhly Grass grows about 2-3 feet high and about 3 feet wide. It is virtually pest free and thrives in hot sun. It is very drought tolerant and salt tolerant and the deer rarely eat it.

Muhly grass looks amazing in mass plantings- when grouped together or ever as some standalone accent plants. Trim back in late winter- prior to the spring flush to keep the grass dense and under control. As the plants age, they can be divided in the spring to create new plants.

Plan on adding this beautiful native to your garden before they put on their spectacular fall show!
