Plant of the Week: Fountain Grass

Fountain Grasses make wonderful additions to gardens by providing texture, movement and color. There are two main varieties that are common in our area- Red (or Purple) Fountain Grass and White Fountain Grass.

White Fountain Grass

Both these grasses grow between 3 and 5 feet tall and wide and thrive in Full Sun. They are moderately salt tolerant and the deer rarely eat them. They are also virtually pest free. Plant in clusters for impact or stand alone as accent plants. Make good “thrillers” in planters as well.

Red Fountain Grass

The Red Fountain grass is a maroon color grass with feathery plumes that are also reddish/ purple in color that suspend above the grass. The White Fountain grass is actually green grass but gets its name from the white plumes that suspend above the foliage.
