Plant of the Week: Flax Lilly

Plant of the Week – Dianella (Flax Lily)

Flax Lily is a spreading perennial that, despite its grass appearance, is actually of the Lily Family. It is used as a ground cover, border plants or as an accent plant.

Flax lily grows in clumps averaging 1-3 feet of height and width. It has a variegated green with white stripes foliage that provides some color in the landscape.

There are small blue flowers that appear winter through to summer, however they are not showy.

Flax Lily is fairly cold hardy but recovers nicely if frost damaged. It is very drought tolerant once established as well as moderately salt tolerant. Deer generally do not eat it either.
