June Newsletter: Plants of the Month – Grasses

Adding grasses to your landscape not only provides some texture, interest and movement, but also can add some color as well. Here are some of our favorites.

Muhly Grass

Beautiful lavender pink plumes adorn this easy care grass in the early fall through to late fall, at which point they become a beige color, until they are done. Clustering a few together, will give greater impact.  A native Florida plant, Muhly Grass grows in full sun and has excellent salt tolerance.  The deer normally don’t bother it either.  It is a moderate size grass that grows 3-4 feet high and wide.

Red Fountain Grass

This beautiful grass is actually more burgundy in color despite its name and produces similar color smallish plumes all summer into the fall. It is useful as an accent plant or clustered together around trees or palms. Provides beautiful interest, color and movement in your garden.  Fountain grass grows 3-4 feet high and wide and prefers full sun.  They have moderate salt tolerance and deer normally don’t bother them.
