Irrigation systems are often set up when there is a very basic landscape in place. Frequently homeowners will install a palm later and if the irrigation system is watering their palm, then they are good. Many times, what is not taken into account, is, if the sprinkler head is hitting the palm trunk directly and repeatedly- every time the system runs. If this is the case, this repetition can often lead to damage to the trunk, where soft spots develop, ganoderma (irreversible butt rot) or a tree that completely leans over. If you have such an occurrence, remedy it now before it turns into a major problem for your trees.
