We Plan You Plant

WPYP

Not sure What to Plant & Where? We understand that many successful and avid gardeners who come from northern regions are not as familiar with Florida’s climate and plants.  Some plants require shade while some need full sun.  Adding in the salt and deer factor makes things even more difficult.  And, unfortunately many learned from lasts year’s freezes that not ALL plants will survive during extreme cold weather in Florida.  Another important factor to consider when selecting plants is HOW much time do you want to spend gardening?  Some people love being outdoors spending time tilling the soil and watching things grow and bloom so plants that need a little more attention work well for them – but not for those who just want it o look good, be as maintenance free as possible, and have us deliver and plant it.
Whatever your case may be we can help!  Just bring in photos or dimensions of the area you are wanting to plant and we can show you a selection of plants that will grow and fit your lifestyle.

Whatever your case may be we can help with VerdeGo’s “We Plan…You Plant” free service!

Just bring in photos and dimensions of the area you are wanting to plant and we can show you a selection of plants that will grow and fit your lifestyle.

Listed below is how to get started and some things to consider regarding the We Plan…You Plant service.

Getting Started - You will need to bring in clear dimensions (a survey is helpful) showing existing bed sizes, plants that will stay and note irrigation heads.  No survey, go on the web to www.flaglerpa.com in Flagler County and print out your floor plan as a starting point.

We’ll need developed photos that show the overall architecture of your house as well as the area you wish to landscape.  You may e-mail your photos as well and we’ll print them for you. Send your pictures to verdego.landscape@gmail.com

Overall Goal - What is your motivation for this project?  Are you looking to solve a privacy issue with shrubs or add a focal point with esthetics appeal?

Make a plan - According to About.com, one of the top ten landscaping mistakes is working without a plan.  Bring dimensions and/or your survey with you when you visit the garden center.

Know Your Site - Where does the sun come up in relation to your project; will it get morning, afternoon or all day sun?  Do you have existing irrigation and know where the heads are located?

Budget - Everyone has a number, a limit that you will spend on your project.  VerdeGo carries many plant sizes and can make good solid recommendations to fit any budget.  Florida has a ten month growing season, so place plants with the mature size in mind.

Right plant right place - Pick plants with the right light and size requirements for your project.  Group plants with similar water needs in the same bed.  Do you have deer or water with a well? Our nursery is stocked with signs to guide you in your plant choice based on mature size, deer and salt tolerance,

Seasonal planting - It’s no secret that winter 2008 reached record cold.  We are in zone 9A and most semi-tropical and tropical plants are zones 10 & 11.  Tropical plants are beautiful and evoke that Florida feel, but don’t forget your foundation plants that look good year ‘round when tropicals melt back from the cold.

Maintenance - When VerdeGo sends out a frost or freeze warning are you willing and available to cover your plants?  Let your designer know if you are an occasional resident or frequent traveler to get recommendations for cold hardy plants.  Maintaining plant health also includes fertilizing and trimming.  Though no plant is maintenance free, your designer can recommend plants that have minimal water and pruning needs.

Irrigation - Landscape is an investment that adds to your homes value.  Protect that investment with proper irrigation.  We have professionals on staff that can install entire systems or move just a single head for you.

Mulch vs. Stone - Ask ten people and you’ll get eleven different opinions how to top dress a bed.  Mulch breaks down over time and must be refreshed 1-2 times a year but is affordable.  Rock is more or less, a one time investment.  It raises the soil temperature about 10-15 degrees which is a consideration when designing your bed so consult your designer to help you reach a decision that fits your project needs.  Either way, your designer can help you calculate your coverage amounts.

The We Plan…You Plant service is a FREE service for customers who purchase the selected plants from VerdeGo.
