Notes: This delightful little palm is a favorite landscape and very popular in Central Florida. The Pygmy Date Palm is a smaller slow growing palm that creates a beautiful tropical accent to any home. The palms can come in single trunk all the way up to 9 trunks. The leaves are a bright green pinnate style that reach about 4′ in length. Lower leaflets turn into sharp spines that can be very dangerous. Take extra precaution when pruning as the spines can cause serious injury and irritation. This palm looks and works great in planting beds in between the sidewalk and the house and in pool planters. The Roebelenii’s are cold sensitive and need to be placed in a well protected area away from harsh northerly winds. During cold winter nights the fronds should be tied up and covered with frost blanket to prevent damage.
