Pampas Grass

Pampas Grass

Height: 10′ – 12′
Spread: 6′ – 8′
Zone: 8 – 10
Salt: Good
Light: Full Sun

Deer: Usually not
Flower: White plumes

Notes: Pampas grass is a very large growing variety grass the provides excellent screening or as an accent in the landscape. Very large white or pink plumes appear in midsummer and continue until frost. The white plumes then turn a golden brown color. Easy to grow even in high salt areas. Drought tolerant. Grass blades are very sharp and should be handled with care.

Thanks for the opportunity to post a comment. I actually have a question on pruning Pampas Grass. We live in Palm Coast, and I’m assuming we should wait a bit before cutting anything back – still too much of a chance of cold weather. However, when we finally DO have some constant warmth, should we cut our pampas grass to the ground, say 12″ up from ground, or just try and sort thru and cut dead blades? Our plumes look pretty bad and I want to make sure its ok to cut these down, also. Thanks for any advice you can pass along. Lynda Rizzo, Palm Coast, FL.
